Palliative Care Queensland is delighted to announce the recognition of the state’s palliative care champions for their outstanding work at the 2021 National Palliative Care Awards. Held on 7 September at the Oceanic Palliative Care Conference 2021, Palliative Care Australia’s National Palliative Care Awards recognise the outstanding innovation, teamwork, and emerging talent in Australia’s palliative care sector.
With several Queensland based finalists represented across the eleven award categories, success was by no means guaranteed. However, as the winners were announced, it was clear that the sunshine state had reasons to celebrate and be proud of the achievements of our community of care.
Across an evening of celebration, Queenslanders took home four awards, highlighting the fantastic work undertaken throughout the sector in Queensland.

- Individual – Excellence in Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Palliative Care – Cheryl Porter-Pedras
- Individual – Excellence in Generalist Palliative Care – Dr Jonathan Ramachenderan
- Individual – Excellence in Palliative Care – Community Based Care – Dr Paula Moffat
- Individual – Excellence in Palliative Care – Paediatric Palliative Care – Associate Professor John Collins
- Individual – Excellence in Palliative Care – Rural and Remote – Robyn Ellis
- Individual – Excellence in Palliative Care in an Aged Care Setting – Yasothiny Yogarajah
- Team – Outstanding Teamwork Award – Dungog Shire Palliative Care Volunteers Inc.
Palliative Care Queensland CEO Shyla Mills congratulated the nominees and winners, “We hold state-wide awards annually and are always impressed to see what is being achieved in our state; it’s great to see a national light shone on the amazing work undertaken in Queenslanders in palliative care. It was a privilege to see health professionals, service providers, academics and the community of care who have demonstrated outstanding service and commitment to the sector during extremely challenging times recognised for their work.”
