Palliative Care Queensland

Expo to celebrate what’s good in life and death this weekend

The Good Life, Good Death Expo will support Queenslanders to explore, talk and plan for their end-of-life care this weekend in Brisbane, says Palliative Care Queensland Chief Executive Officer Shyla Mills.

“We’re encouraging people of all ages and walks of life to attend Queensland’s first free Expo about end-of-life issues,” Ms Mills said.

“Death is often seen as a taboo in our society, so this Expo aims to break down some of that stigma by engaging the community to come together to learn, share and discover what services, information and supports are out there.

“We’re proud to have experts along with community members share their insights and knowledge with the community to de-mystify death and dying, and really show that with future planning and support, a good life is possible, right to the end of life.

“Many people don’t know what the options are for care at the end of life. For example, many people don’t realise that it’s possible to be cared for in their own homes with palliative care support instead of dying in a hospital, hospice or residential aged care service.

“This Expo will hear from people with experience and experts in the field, with free seminars and workshops. Along with over 30 exhibitors showcasing their services and providing information. Everyone will be ready to answer questions and everyone attending will receive a free expo showbag.

“It’s not all doom and gloom either. We’ll have music, face painting, photo-booth, free espresso coffee, art exhibitions and activities for all ages. It’s a family-friendly, age-friendly event and everyone is invited.

The Expo is free to attend. It is hosted by Palliative Care Queensland and is supported by the Queensland Department of Health, Palliative Care Australia, Karuna Hospice Services and Creative Ageing Centre.

Friday 27-28 October, 10am-3pm
