Alongside many of our friends and colleagues, we asked Queenslanders ‘What’s Your Plan?’ to challenge and inspire conversations with family, friends and within your community during this year’s National Palliative Care Week.

An enormous thank you to our incredible volunteers and colleagues for your support and participation during NPCW. Your efforts made it possible for us to advocate, educate and support all of this week’s activities. We couldn’t have done it without you.
Palliative Care Queensland hosted a number of events that formed a part of this year’s campaign:
🧡 Light up Queensland: More than 22 iconic landmarks and structures across Queensland were illuminated in orange to show support for palliative care and raise awareness within our communities.
🧡 Nicholas Street Precinct pop-up: Ipswich residents had the opportunity to learn how to advocate for improved palliative care across Queensland, as the Palliative Care Queensland team, in collaboration with the Care at the End of Life Collaborative, connected with the community in the precinct.
🧡 Live the Life You Please film screening – Held at Sherwood Uniting Church and hosted in collaboration with Benarrawa Community Development Association.
🧡 Queensland Children’s Hospital Pop-Up: In collaboration with Queensland Children’s Hospital, Palliative Care Queensland hosted a ‘What’s Your Plan?’ pop-up table, accompanied by one of our Ambulance Wish Queensland vehicles. To brighten the day, Queensland Children’s Hospital also arranged for therapy dogs to visit, bringing smiles to children and families onsite.
🧡 PalliLEARN Education sessions: Palliative Care Queensland hosted two valuable sessions as part of the PalliLEARN program: ‘How to Have Conversations About Dying’ and ‘Grief and Talking to Children About Dying’. These sessions provided practical guidance and support for community members navigating difficult but important conversations.
🧡 Princess Alexandra Hospital Mega Wish – Palliative care patients, residents and staff were treated to an afternoon tea in the incredible atrium at Princess Alexandra Hospital in the heart of Brisbane. A wonderful array of food, music and even a petting zoo gave many people a sense of normality, even if it was only for a moment.
🧡 King George Square: Brisbane residents were invited to join the conversation and discover what palliative care truly means, while reflecting on what matters most to them. In collaboration with Hummingbird House, the Palliative Care Queensland and Hummingbird House teams enjoyed a wonderful afternoon filled with meaningful conversations and community connection.
