The webinar will focus on understanding the unique experiences, barriers, and support needs of LGBTQI+ people accessing palliative and end-of-life care, while providing practical strategies for creating inclusive, affirming, and culturally sensitive care environments.

How can we ensure that every person feels seen, respected, and supported when facing serious illness, dying, death, and grief?

Join Dr Ashwin Kaniah, Palliative Medicine Staff Specialist, for an insightful session exploring the unique experiences of LGBTQI+ people in palliative and end-of-life care. This webinar will examine common barriers to care, the impact of discrimination and assumptions, and practical approaches to creating inclusive, culturally humble, and affirming healthcare environments.

Using real-world examples and evidence-informed approaches, participants will gain confidence in supporting LGBTQI+ individuals and their biological and chosen families, with compassion, dignity, and respect.

Who should attend?
Healthcare professionals, aged care workers, allied health practitioners, volunteers, community service providers, and anyone interested in delivering person-centred, inclusive care.

We believe that palliative care is everybody’s business, and we aim to build compassionate communities around people and their families experiencing serious illness, dying, death, caregiving and grief. This webinar is designed for all members of the community including both health and non-health related workers (i.e., healthcare workers, doctors, nurses, social workers, allied health staff, health administrative staff, spiritual care workers, health managers, health educators, pharmacists and paramedics). We also encourage people from diverse backgrounds to attend. These webinars are sponsored by Queensland Health, and supported by Queensland Ambulance Service.
