Presenter: Kima Rodgers
Description: Music-thanatology is a sub-specialty of palliative care that utilizes both harp and voice to serve the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of the dying. Kima Rodgers is introducing the discipline and practice of Music-thanatology in Queensland.
Music-thanatologists deliver live music by the bedside to assist in alleviating a range of physical, emotional, and spiritual conditions. The music used in vigils is often unfamiliar to listeners and may come from a range of sources, with a customized “prescription” based on an evaluation of the patient’s condition. It is always contemplative and calming and serves not only the dying patient but the benefit of music can be seen in the patient's loved ones as well.
